Artificially striped, stained completely and 1 coat of Chambers oil on it. Does it resemble natural curl? Up close...I'd say not really, but a few feet away and depending on how bad your peepers are, I think it could pass for a curly girly.
Anudder view.

Redding? the vice? that's seems like one of "their" colors.
Hey, anything looks better than straight-grain! And that looks dandy. And quick. reckon it'll change your POI?

Wade, the vise doesn't have any identification on it anywhere. All I know is it's called a Carvers/Gunmakers vise and it can be bought at Woodcraft stores nationwide....I think. POI??? Point Of Interest?
? That color is callin' ya ain't it?

facetiousness foiled.
'twas a play on the idea of changing the stock...which could change the Point at which the prOjectile Impacts the target yo.

I think it's looking great for simulated curl. The pistols look great. Oh, by the way I have that same vise, and it is green, but a much, much less vivid green. I think your's might have gone bad.

and you certainly don't want it looking "too good".
the last time i went to a gun show (working a table) i saw a faked figure gunstock and knew it was from across the way...1,000-dollar "wood" on a 200-dollar gun is an easy giveaway.
heck, iirc, it was on laminated wood to boot!
the horror

By George you did it Brad! I have to admit being sceptical when you began, but you pulled it off. Congrats! Now, I believe that vice could use a good striping job... I think dayglo pink stripes over that green would look faboulus

The idea was to get the skwerrls to come in for a closer look, right? I think you did it.

No need to send it to ya Wade.....here's photographic proof she's a bushytail's worst nightmare. First two shots fired...one in the cranium....the next, center mass. I call this my "Bin Laden Squirrel".

Leave it to a lefty to come up with that idea.
Looks good. I have that vise too. Woodcarvers vise from Woodcraft. Easy on the wood, and the maple jaws won't hurt your tools.
