Although I live in NJ, I do all my muzzleloading in PA.  I go to several regular shoots a month and the furthest one is Brandywine Longrifles in southern Chester County, 75 miles from me.  First Frontier Militia in Bowmanstown in about 50 and blue Mountain is about 60.  The closest shoot I attend is Langhorne and it is 23 miles from my front door.  If you cross into NJ and get on I-78, that is about the best bet for many of these shoots.

There are several back-to-back shoots, second Saturday and Sunday (they usually fall on the same weekend) and you might motel it between.  I am particularily thinking of Brandywine on Saturday and First Frontier Militia on Sunday.  A motel room in the Allentowen, PA area should be convenient.

Roger Fisher runs the First Frontier Militia shoots and he might chime in here with some additional information.

A little more than a couple or three years ago 3 ol boys from Long Island NY would run over to First Frontier and they seemed to get a kick our of the shoots.  When the fuel costs soared we didn't see them except at Dixon's Gunmakers fair.  Course they were getting a little 'old'.... :)

Look us up on your fancy Map quest or whatever and come on over./   You are more than welcome and we promise to let you outta here in one piece.   ;D

This Weekend's Shoots

Good weekend to shoot...

Saturday was Blue Mountain Muzzleloading Rifle Association...  Thism was my first trip to Shartlestown, PA to shoot at this club.  Everyone, and I mean everyone, was extremely friendly and I had a great time.  Before I left, I joined the club and expect to spend a lot of time there over the coming year.

There were about 25 shooters, mostly offhand shooters.  The club has bench events and there were five or so shooters at the bench rest range (100 and 200 yard targets) and everyone else was at the 25/50 yd. Offhand Range.

Ole Roger Fisher was there, shooting his overcharged rifle(s) (man, they sound LOUD when they go off!), as well as other shooters from First Frontier Militia, Bill and John, and other shooters I run into at other shoots.  It turns out I knew about half the shooters there.  I shot OK, but nothing to write home about.  I had to leave early to go to a pistol team dinner later that evening.

Sunday was First Frontier Militia's shoot.  Good attendance too, about 30 shooters showed up.  I was #20 and there were more behind me.  There were a lot of events and the prizes were good; meat prizes for first and bottles of wine for second and third.

Blue Mountain is done for the year, their next shoot will be in April.  First Frontier's last shoot in next month, and they are off for January and February, resuming in March.

For anyone looking to shoot in eastern Pennsylvania, these two shoots are worth going to.

Thanks for the PR Jim, we need all we can get... Blue Mt (Shartlesville, Pa. Is the oldest club going)  Started at present location in 1938.  Targets were 25 cents and they gave original long rifles as prizes once and again..! B/4 my time.  They are mostly a bench club.

First Frontier also had a great shoot 27 shooters a great day.   Smoothbore, rifle.   25 & 50 yds paper  Chunk at 50 yds.  Silohuette agg. Turki head knockdown at 75 yards for hams and other stuff.  Egg shoot at 75 yds 2 shots for 3 bucks.  Good ol Carl Schmoyer scrambled the egg and went home with a smile and $54. cash mon ey.   Happy days all around.

So, come on down and try us out.  Dec be a blanket shoot plus other matches.  2nd Sunday..  God willing of course. :)
