Virginia gun engravings

Wondering what type of engraving borders, and objects would be displayed on rifles prior to the Rev War?  Are there existing pictures or patterns that are documented?

So few guns and all are speculative as to where made, by whom and when.  Look up Johannes Faber rifle and F. Klette rifles.  Lowell Haarer (spell) has some close copies on his website.

I have a Virginia rifle with Boars head engravings, bow with quiver and arrows... and wondered if they were unique to the Colonial period or more British in origon?

The boars head and arms motif was common in Europe especially British arms.  John Newcomer of Lancaster used it also, and note he had an English surname.  We were a European colony with culture closely tied to the motherlands.
