Building a lock
« on: December 22, 2008, 09:17:54 PM »
I have never built a lock from a casting before.  I have a lock casting from Jack Brooks of a small Germanic lock that I would like to build.  Before I wade into this like a blind hog, can someone tell me if they know of a reference source on building locks from castings?  Pictures would be very nice.  A book, CD or videotape?  I realize this will not be easy, but I do want to try.  Having said that, I know zero about lock design, geometry etc...

So, I am ready to spectacularly crash and burn, but at least I can say I tried... ;)

BTW, I realize building one of Chambers fine locks from a kit might be easier, but I impose these steep learning curves upon myself for a reason.
Thanks guys.
