Projects I'm working on
« on: November 06, 2012, 05:36:54 PM »
Here are a couple of knives and axes that I'm currently working on. The larger belt axe is just under 11 ounces and will be closer to ten when finnished. The little bag axe is 3-7/8" x 1-5/8".

Let's hear some details on those items, did you forge them yourself, what kind of wood are you using for the handles, what kind of steel did you use?  I like them all but the top ax is my favorite.

Kives are forged from 1084 steel and the axes were forged from wrought iron and have 1084 welded in for the cutting edge. The handles are hickory that I cut on my place in Kentucky. I prefer to use split wood for such things that way I know the grain is running true. The larger axe is the one I forged up at the Log Cabin trade fair a couple of weeks ago. If anyone here was there on satureday they probably seen me hammering on it.
