Plans for a longrifle rack
« on: November 12, 2012, 09:57:13 AM »
Now that my collection of smoke poles has increased over the years I am in need of rack for display in my gun room. Nothing with glass, just a simple rack that holds them in a horizontal fashion.
Anyone have plans or know where I can get a set of plans?

Much Obliged,
Scout

I cut two 1 X 2 strips of curly maple, rounded the edges then screwed them to the wooden paneling in my office, they start about chest high and go up to about 4" from the ceiling. I drilled holes in the strips and glued short pieces of left over 3/8" ram rods. Then put my longrifles on the pegs. The rack holds 8 longrifles. Simple, easy and works great.

Thats more in line with my basic carpentry skills.  ;D
I have some red oak and after a coat of stain it will do the trick.
Thanks Dennis.

I found that storing/displaying them horizontally took up way too much room, and limited the number of rifles I could put in the rack.  So my rack consists of a 2 X 6 on the floor, and a notched 2 x 4 on the wall for the butt ends, because I store them vertically and muzzle down.  Side by side, they require only a fraction of the space, I don't get oil weeping into the wood which is particularly bag when stored on their butts, and I can get them all on one wall of my gun room.  My bags and horns hang from pegs above the rifles/guns.
