Very nice architecture!!!  I like that gun! Looks like it could come out of S. Appalachia yesterday. You got a really nice finish on that stock.

Very nice iron mounted rifle John.  Great architecture having the look of a shooter.  The guard makes a nice statement.  I would have used double set triggers but that is me, the single trigger looks good.
kind regards, heinz

A nice clean looking gun.  If it was mine I would have put  double set triggers on it.    I have also found one other thing
that I would have done differently.   It is an architectural thing..........tell me what I'm looking at?........Don

Ok, since your asking.   But I'm a poor one to get picky!   #1 - I would have used a shorter lower forearm.   #2 I would have taken more wood off behind the oblique flat of the barrel at the breech.  #3 Maybe a bit lower cheek piece. (Just maybe)  I do love those iron Mtd rifles.

I like it too. A very cool guard!

Don has me curious- Is it the nose of the comb? That seems kind of sharp to me, but it may be perfectly HC for all I know about these types of guns.

I'm guessing Don's thinking about flattening out the oblique flats as Roger suggested.

I like this rifle...a lot. Sleek, no fuss, well crafted.

Nice work.  I would have added the double set triggers and extended the toe more, but I couldn't get anything near as clean a quality of work as what you've done.  Very sleek and also stealthy.  It looks like it will be a rifle you will want to carry for a long time.

My bet is Don is talking about starting the tang bend closer to the breech.  A hump there is a pet peeve of his, I believe.

I do like this gun.....and there is a lot to like about it. It has a lot of appeal.  I wouldn't dare tell you what I would have done different as it would only come down to taste.  Very well done! You should be proud.

Enjoy, J.D.

You guys are getting to know this old coot too well.   On this gun it appears that the start of the wrist is too far back, it
should start farther forward, right at the breech end of the barrel.  When you build a gun this way you will find that you
have to "reach" for the trigger.  Don't feel bad about this, there is another good builder on this forum that used to build
a gun this way, but he has been cured of his "evil" ways, ha.  On the other hand, this builder has probably forged his own
triggerguard, which I envy............Don

Thanks for the comments guys.....this rifle is a consignment piece for the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio.

There are quite a few things I like about the rifle, there are some things I don't like about the rifle, there are some things I wish I would have approached differently and some things that were out of my control.

I like the color, the curl is very nice, I like the way the triggergaurd came out and the way the shape mimicks the tang. I also like the way I folded the buttplate over at the toe and the way the buttplate tapers off at the heel. It cannot be seen in the pictures, but the thimbles, though rather plain, are alligned so that the entry thimble is long, the middle somewhat short and the one by the muzzle long (but not as long as the entry thimble) and I did so to break up monotony, sort of like a dashed line. I thought it would add interest. I also like the profile of the sideplate, just enough for interest, but not to guawdy.

Dave Kutcher and I laid out the profile on the blank and right off we could both see that due to the way it was initially cut, we would have ended up with a ten inch trigger pull!! We both surmized the issue, made adjustments and decided to go with it. The worse that could happen was the stock would have been fireplace fodder. After speaking with Liza at the Cabin, she told us to give a go and not worry too much. All in all, I think it worked out. I needed to do some tweaking with the placement of the trigger and the relationship to the sear, but truthfully, it holds very well, the triggerpull is very comfy and it points well. The triggerpull is a very nice gentle squeeze and then she trips, which I like.

Some things I wish I should have done: lop off a few inches from the barrel to reduce a bit of wieght and make the width of the buttplate just a tad bit wider.

Overall, I'm happy with it.
