Haversack to Knapsack conversion...
« on: December 10, 2012, 06:11:07 PM »
Well, it is mostly done.  Still need to make up my suspension for my blanket and groundcloth.  Converting a haversack to a knapsack is no picnic...  ;)   about a 7 hour project.  Thinking it would be alot easier to build the haversack portion while making up the knapsack leather, and sewing up sections of the bag as you go.

Research and Development is always a great consumer of time. It looks nice and I'm sure it will serve it's purpose. Thanks for sharing your project.         Regards   Frank Barker

I have a similar type that I carry.  I have found that suspending my blanket(s) from the bottom works OK, but they tend to bounce, makes the shoulder-straps dig in while pulling the weight backwards.  Blankets are better carried on a separate tumpline.  I have a half-blanket tied to the bottom on the knapsack.

Black Hand,

I hear you about the straps digging in. I made this set wide on top and used a #2beveler to ease the back side of the strap...  Now to figure out makin all the stuff that is going to get packed into it.  ;D

Mine is full of stuff in smaller bags.  But no one goes hungry when I'm around...

I also put a wang on the straps at mid chest level to tie them together, keep's them comfortable and they dont dig into my shoulders, even with my blanket's tied under the rig.
