Which House made this knife?
« on: December 26, 2012, 03:01:17 AM »
Got this House knife from Dad forChristmas.

has 2 Sheaths, one marked Wallingford, Im assuming Charlie, and another center seam sheath that was made by Doc Baker prior to his selling it to Dad a good many years ago

So is this an actual Hershal House Knife or one of the others?

The touchmark on the Blade

The Wallingford sheath that is going on my Peacemaker gunbelt...

My guess would be a early Hershel knife before he started using the double HH. I have seen some early ones that were stamped with a single H. He told me once that he had started using the double H to seperate his Knifes from other knife makers that last name stated with the intial H.  PB

Paul--
I believe that is an early Frank House knife. I vaguely remember making the sheath. That was several years ago and I don't even have a good grip on yesterday. ;)
Now that I think about it, I am pretty sure that I owned that knife and sold it to Doc Baker.

Spent the day over at Mom & Dad's and got to talk a bit more with Dad about the knife.  He got the knife from Doc in either 1993 or 1994 when they went to a Longbow shoot up in Michigan.

On my way home I stopped off at Jim and Jerry's, yall know them twin brothers right?  They think its a Hershall given that Dad had it for 19 years and Doc before that, it puts its "Birth" prior to when Frank started making knives.....

Luke-
The more that I think about it I have to respectfully disagree. I bought it from Frank and  I made the sheath when I owned the knife. Then I sold it to Doc during one of my visits to his cabin at Rabbit Hash. I remember Doc asking me why I would sell a Frank House knife.

Aint that a great Cabin?  Doc cemented my love of Birchbark canoes during a visit down there and he and I took his canoe out on the Ohio.  Everyday I was working on building bark canoes up in New York I thought back to that first paddle in a bark canoe that before I had only imagined.

No matter who made the knife it is a wonderful piece with a history of ownership that makes it a true heirloom.
