New rustic horn
« on: January 02, 2013, 10:44:20 PM »
This is a horn I have been playing with.  It has one unique feature in that I hand carved the base plug with a lobe to hold the strap.  I have always wanted to try this.  I left some of the tool marks in the cherry for a rustic look.  There is also an applied band and antler tip, all hand carved.  I did not get the nice contrast with the white antler tip that I planned.   This piece of antler is almost a purple color.  But I used it anyway, I figure that is how the deer made it.  I plan to pair this horn with a pouch I am working on at the moment.

Interesting twist to this horn, which side are you going to carry it on?

It would wear on either side.  I think I am going to set it up for right side carry.

Cool, I like cherry and have a plains rifle with a cherry stock.  Thanks for sharing your work with us.
