Paul thats like asking what kind of ice cream  should I put in my bowl. ;) What do you want to build? Build it. I change what I want to build at the moment many times over the course of the week. Right now I am thinking about a pistol build that would be cool. I just finished some drawings of an 1805 pistol for Steve (ALR Member). It was not on my radar till he asked for any info or plans. All that said.  I think you should build a barn gun ala Don Getz style. I love the clean lines and simplicity of them. His architecture is spot on and you just want to take it out for some serious shooting. I especially like his stepped wrist piece he just finished up.

"I think you should build a barn gun ala Don Getz style".

This is becoming an urban legend. I wonder how many guys on this sight might think Don invented the "barn gun"??? Hey, he's not that OLD ;D

What caliber is the barrel and is it a A, B or C weight. That would make a difference.

Look at Don Bruton early Southern iron mounted rifles (not So Mtn. Rifles)..... that barrel would be a natural for a nice long wide butt and yet slender gun of about 7 lbs for whitetail hunting!!
