ALR meeting at the Frazier Museum, March 23
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:26:19 AM »
All ALR members are invited to meet and tour the Frazier History Museum, in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, March 23.  Museum hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm ET.

The Frazier has generously waived the normal admission fee for ALR members.  The Frazier is also making available a meeting room for our use from 9:00am - 12 noon.  ALR members are encouraged to bring current projects, accessories, and other LR related items to share and discuss.

We will break for lunch at noon.  There are numerous restaurants nearby.  After our meeting we will be welcome to tour the museum for the rest of the day.

For anyone within several hours of Louisville, this will be a great opportunity to meet, greet and share, AND see the marvelous displays of arms and armour at the Frazier.

Among the firearms on display are examples by JP Beck, Wiley Higgins, Jacob Hoak, Jacob Stoudenour, Nathan Clause, J Roop & Daniel Schweitzer, Stophel Smith, Henry Lechler, and J&S Hawken.

If you plan to attend, please confirm either by posting here or via email (see my profile).  If your email address is not included in your profile, please send it to me.  We need to have a head count for the Frazier staff and I will be sending updates as needed via email.

A huge thanks to ptk1126 for all his efforts to pull this together!  Hope to see you there, it should be a great time!

For directions and information on the Frazier, visit www.fraziermuseum.org

Me too.  I had to miss the last time.  I won't miss it this time.  Sorry I missed the Boonesborough get together last month.  I can't wait until I retire.

Dave R,

Sorry to hear you won't make it.  Paul and I tried to avoid conflicting event dates, but also had to work within the Frazier's existing schedule.  I'm sure we will go again.

Ron,
York shoot for me also  I missed the last Frazier and thought I would surely make the next one, but it doesn't look like I will unless something goes badly awry.  I really appreciate the planning that goes into these events, anyway, and sorry I can't make this one.

A couple of people have asked if it will be possible to bring items to the ALR meeting at the Frazier.  The answer is YES, and please do. The Frazier has made a private meeting room available to us from 9am to noon, so please do bring in-progress or recently completed rifles, antique and contemporary long rifles, powder horns, hawks, knives, etc.  Anything to sell or trade?  Bring it.

If you bring items for show and tell, you will need to abide by a few rules.
1. No loaded arms.
2. Do not bring powder or ammunition of any kind.
3. You should enter thru the Security entrance on the 9th Street side of the building and let the guards know you are there for the American Longrifles.org meeting in the 4th floor Board Room.

It should be a great time.  Hope to see you there.

The plans are finalized for our visit to the Frazier Museum.

Arrive at 9:00am, use the the Security entrance on the 9th Street side of the building and let the guards know you are there for the American Longrifles.org meeting in the 4th floor Board Room.  Check in any arms or accoutrements that you are bringing into the museum.  Please no loaded arms or powder.

At 11:00am, the Collections Curator will take us on a tour of the collections storage area.  This area is normally closed to the public,

Around noon we will break for lunch and after lunch we are free to tour the museum.

I got a few pictures before my batteries went dead, and my spares were dead too  :'(

Here's the Board Room the Frazier allowed us to use.

The view out the Board Room windows was of the Falls of the Ohio.

Keb brought a rifle built by JR Salvo in the early 1970's. Very interesting piece with South Carolina influence.  48 inch tapered barrel and some of the furniture is copper.

The cheek-piece carving on the Salvo rifle is of wild rice.

G.T. brought one of his recently finished pieces.

PTK brought the furniture he has prepared for a bench copy of a rifle in the Frazier collection.

After we reviewed all the items everyone brought, the Frazier staff took us on a tour of their collections restoration area. We were issued white cotton gloves and were invited to inspect the various pieces the Frazier staff had brought out for us.  It was a very cool experience, indeed.  Many thanks to Kelly and her staff at the Frazier.

No. He passed Jan 2010. The gun along with about 7 or 8 more belong to his widow. All can be bought, too.
