Goex Olde Eynsford powder
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:03:06 PM »
I see Powder Inc. is advertising it as in stock at $16/pound now.  Anybody tried it yet or know any particulars about the actual manufacturing process (how it differs from other Goex powder?) Looking around other internet sources,  there is some speculation that its just KIK re-packaged,  some other internet experts say its just regular Goex that's been screened different.  I didn't see any info on the Goex website.

NMLRA was told in meetings with Goex at Shot Show that this is their creation to compete with swiss. I believe if I'm remembering correctly it uses different charcoal and is screened better. Hope they will come to Spring shoot at Friendship to promote and explain.

Apparently Powder Inc.  does NOT have this powder in stock yet.  It shows up on the order page,  but will not move into the cart when you try to buy it.  I hope they show up at Friendship too.

It's the good old days revisited. Now it's a dollar an ounce.

the powder is supposed to be finer grained like swisss. with a tight control on grain size and high quality control on mixtue.supposed to be over 50 feet per second fasetr than goex.have a tighter than swiss difference in speed for same load.the old plat had a explosion /fire. they have been down for 8 months with a new state of art rebuild plant just started up production and should be shipping in march

I would be interested to know where they are getting the charcoal.
I will believe its more marketing hype than fact until proven otherwise.

To date all I've read about OEP has been e-postings claiming to have some undefined channel to information about this wondrous substance. Until I see something straight from the Goex horse's voicebox, I'll believe nothing. Seems there's a plethora of speculation and a paucity of useful information.

All I found was a blah-blah-blah by VP who seemed to have no idea what he was talking about and certainly no explanation of how they made the stuff. Or why it was better. Claiming its better is one thing demonstrating it is another.

Wasn't "Express" supposed to compete with Swiss in quality?  I don't think I ever saw any of that before it disappeared (assuming they ever shipped any).  Did anyone try it?  Is "Ye" Olde Eynsford just more of the same?  The name alone irritates me enough to buy Swiss :)!

Express was simply dressed up Goex.
I have several reasons for buying Swiss. I would prefer to use American made but there is history.... Goex changing hands helped but not enough. Swiss is made to a quality level. Goex in made to a price level and a great deal of their production is not propellant powder but powder for military fuzes and boosters. I do not believe the equipment that goex uses can even make a powder equal to Swiss.

Standard Goex is fine powder as is the less expensive Jack's Battle Powder (3F only).  American made is preferable but I have been looking toward getting a pound or two of Swiss.  If OEP turns out to be even simply similar to Swiss I'll certainly try that.  What we need is a definitive, side by side test Goex/Swiss/OEP.

I burned a case of GOEX Express powder, FFF & FF in a variety of rifles.  Excellent powder. When I wanted another case, was not available.  >:(

I did hoard about half a case of express fffg.  It shoots a little better than Swiss in my  Shiloh.  I never could see enough advantage in my flintlocks to make me want to switch.  I still shoot Goex in all my offhand target rifles.

What primers do you use in the Shiloh?
Swiss does not like rifle primers.
Nor is FFF generally the best for accuracy in bullet guns.
Express is very little different than regualar GOEX.
But you might have gotten a good lot.
