Too many irons in the fire

On top of my day job I have currently been working on....a youth rifle, a Lancaster rifle, a knife, a pistol barrel, cleaning jags and tapered ramrod tips. I could probably add to that list too but it kinda makes me feel overloaded just thinking about it

A random opinion...  I think if you drop the penciled in box, on the walnut stocked gun, down a bit it will look a little better.  At least that's my view.

I agree Pathfinder and I need to stick to one project until completed. Its hard to stay off the computer when I learn so much from it for these projects. Its a great reference tool

I like having several projects going at the same time. If I get a block on one I simply walk across the shop and work on something else for a while. I do try to have all my blacksmithing done in the same session so I only have to build one fire. Looks like fun to me. Good Luck, Bob

Sounds like here.  Finishing a smoothrifle, got a pistol half done, a Maryland rifle started, a horn almost done and another started and a few turkey calls in progress.  And don't forget cutting, hauling, splitting and stacking firewood for next winter, some farm chores, a boat to pull out, scrape barnacles and paint the bottom, a newspaper column to write each week and lots of shed antler hunting and deer and turkey scouting to do.  Makes me glad I've got over a month yet until turkey season and work starts back up for the summer!

In my younger days I could bounce at least 3 balls simultaneously, but at 81 can hardly bounce one. Usually have a build in progress and one all set to go. ...sometimes "rounding up" all the components is more difficult than building. Evidently you like to keep busy which is a good thing.....Frerd

I agree with you all. I too like keeping busy with it all. It is rewarding to have completed something though. Too much time between and it seems like I'm going no where. It is also a job in between keeping the parts together and no forgetting the overall plan or what you may have planned on correcting. All and all though it is nice to be busy and have all the stuff to work with.....Life is good

The biggest challenge in this hobby is that it is a lot easier to accumulate new projects than to find time to finish the ones started. I keep telling myself, I'm not going to buy more parts until I've finished my projects started. Er,well not until 3 of them are done, er, not until at least two of them are done. Er,definitely not until one is done...

And then Runastav posts a project that completely breaks my resolve.

Kermit, you may not know how true that statement is.  I feel so sorry for guys who have nothing going on in their lives, apart from their job.  Their lives, in my view, are so shallow, that they cannot possibly beat the reaper.  I have been blessed during my life, to having had the opportunity to spend as much time as I want in my shop.  It's where I make my living.  I currently have more projects than I believe I can accomplish, and I add to the list routinely.

Talk about too many irons in the fire. This is a picture of 10 swivel breech rifle kits that I just finished.  It is much more economical for me to make ten at a time, but very boring.  Four have been delivered to   customers, two are to be delivered to customers at Dixn's ,  two are for me to finish for customers, and two are for me to have in stock.  

At the present time I am working on a custom stick built rifle for a woman that is a National competitor,  she is only about five ft. two inches and weight about eighty  five lbs.  None of my patterns fit her so I must stick build this one.  It has been a long time since I stick built a rifle and I forgot how much satisfaction there is in doing it.  Also a lot more work.

I  also have one to build for my grandson before hunting season.  He is now eleven years old, and has out grown the little 5/8 scale rifle that I built for him when he was born.

Before I "got retired"(I actually fought it!),I used to laugh at the guy's who said they are busier now the they are retired than when they were working. How can that be?

Well,now I'm in that boat! Once I get caught up from the thing's that are beind  from my recovery,Kermit's 300 year estimate is close! And that's just my "Buckskinning" stuff!

Add Model airplanes,17&18th century static model sailing ship's,2 antique tractor's,wife,3 dog's and a cat,canoeing and fishing and hunting and...........

My fire is so small I don't have room for many irons, hence my next major project, a bigger fire.
