Had a short but fun hunt this morning. Got set up and about 10 minutes later, two toms came in and I picked the larger of the two. I was using my 20 gauge fowler.

Quick success like that comes from putting your time in on scouting, knowing your calls and turkey habits. Great job and that photograph is a keeper, your grand-kids will love that.

Nice bird but if you make a good meal out of an old tom, please let us know how you cooked the bird. Never had much luck cooking those older toms myself.

He weighed in at 22 lbs. As for cooking, I usually cut the breast meat into about 3/4 inch thick strips, across the grain. Then marinate in a Creole Butter marinate over night and dredge in flour the next day and pan fry. Always tender.

Thanks for that cooking tip. I will try that if I should get lucky again. Maybe next weekend if some of the snow goes this week. Winter is sure getting long aroud here, hope others are doing better. Good hunting to those still with tags.

I thought you had to be hair-to-toenail in the latest camouflage pattern to bust a turkey. At least that's what the hunting magazines and hunting shows would lead us to believe. (frustration now vented)

I've seen more turkeys this year, and in places I've never seen them, including on the edges of a couple of >10,000 population cities. Congratulations on yours!
