« on: April 28, 2013, 05:11:28 AM »
Ok will be getting ready here to start my first build right now the barrel is being inletted into my wood and the profile is also being done .. While waiting for that stuff to get back is it ok to start cleaning up the trigger guard and butt plate and lock?..not to a finish polish but to get most of the rough stuff off /

Casting clean up is a necessary step needing to be done so go for it. There are some great Ideas shared here about how to hold trigger guards so you can work all the way around it to clean it up. Its a frame like thing that can be held in the vice for the clean up.  Make sure your files are sharp.

It's absolutely OK.Since I find polishing castings one of the more tedious parts of gun building the more that's done early on rather than leaving it all to the end the less tedious it seems.I try to do a little casting clean up and polishing first thing every morning before I move on to the more enjoyable tasks in gun building. This way it never seems like a chore :) :)
