Early Lancaster Finished

Well, I have finally finished the Chambers Early Lancaster I've had since around 2006. I learned a lot, made some mistakes, but overall I'm pretty dang happy with how it turned out. It may be my first rifle build, but it certainly won't be my last.

Many of you fine folks on here have helped me get here, whether you know it or not, and I want to thank everyone for the vast amount of incredible information you provide, and the willingness to help and educate those who are ignorant. I truly appreciate it.

Lastly, I'd like to give a special thanks to Mr. Jerry Lape, who willingly gave me his time, patience, and expertise during the carving process. I definitely owe him a hug and a beer if we ever meet in person.

My wonderful daughter was nice enough to hold her while I took the pics. Unfortunately, it was overcast all day today... I hope to get some better photos when the sun makes a return to the area. :)

I'm not sure yet... but I'm kinda thinking something slightly later, and with a smaller caliber, like maybe a .40 cal. And a brass patchbox on the next one for sure. Maybe a York? I really prefer the profile of the York and Lancaster rifles over the other schools.

You did better with the photography than you know.  Making pictures on an overcast day leaves no shadows.  If you had maid them in bright sunlight you would not be able to see the work under the cheek piece and the shadows from the carving would have been distorted.  Look under the bushes in the background there are almost no shadows, look at your daughters chin if it had been bright out there would have been a shadow instead all of her pretty face can be seen.

Professional photographers (my wife and now deceased father in law) wanted overcast days to make pictures outdoors especially wedding photos for this very reason.  In the studio they use bounce light that wraps around the subject rather than being a flash directly on.

I applaud your efforts on the beautiful rifle and the photography. 

P.S. Years ago John Bivins did a series of articles on long rifle photography in Muzzleblast if you could find them it would be well worth any ones time to read them.

You are correct the sunlight does make the curl pop.  It's personal preference but none the less that's a beautiful rifle, especially for a first rifle.  Now keep it and use it to refer back to  and look at the things you did right and the things you need to brush up on.

Nice rifle and congratts on finishing your first rifle.  The second rifle will go much quicker.  Just dont put it down for five years like I did once.
