Old Eynsford Test

So, Using my 70 3f charge in Olde Eynsford has been lacking in grouping.  I moved up to 75 3 f Olde Eynsford as part of the experiment and the group really opened up with one just catching the top of the paper.... so, several targets later cutting the charge 5 grains each 5 shot session it slowly tightened up til I got down to 50 grains.  She then shot a sweet group of 5 cutting each other.  I couldn't stand success so I fired 3 more shots which stretched the group vertically.  Bottome line is with this rifle I landed on 50 3 f Olde Eynsford as what she wants.....!  How are you all doing with this new powder

Roger, what are your conclusions, if any, regarding OE so far? Looks like everything was constant except for powder charge and that groups improved with lower charges. Certainly good grouping.....how does this compare to your Goex results?

50 3 f Olde Eynsford now compares with 70 3 f Goex. (in my rifle) Waiting to see how the other shooters make out with it.  At the moment I will stop threatening to spread it on the lawn.

That is similar to what I saw with my "woodswalk load" on my GM 50 with 3F Swiss -- its a 0.018" (maybe a little less) ticking patch, a .490 ball, and ~50gr. powder.  I only had Swiss for a while, as I'm cheap, but I've always thought that if the different measures required held up accuracy wise, it would be an economic break-even more or less.  50 gr. Swiss seemed quite easily the equal of 60-65 gr. Goex 3F, and even heavy loads of Goex don't give the same snap in the recoil.

I think it you want to shoot bigger loads, you need a heavier patch (even with teflon?) with the hotter powder.
