Note:
It's actually been $4 - $4.50 a bottle for years.  The extra 10-pack I just bought from MidwayUSA after hearing about the product change was only $4.59 / bottle...and that's the most I've ever paid for it.

I don't use it as a solvent, I use it as a lube in the dry / low humidity months of winter & early spring here so I don't have to wipe between shots....and given my age, after adding this additional 10-pack, I now have way more on hand than I'll ever use, but I like it and now like the peace of mind knowing I'll never run out.

I checked my $ stash and found I had enough to get 4 bottles from Midway.  So I went to the site and set up an order for the 4 bottles and when I got ready to check out the cost was $19 just to ship an $18 order!  NO WAY!  I've got a fair bit left and if it's all gone I'll switch to something else.  I'll be checking locally to see what I can find.

As is plain water.  But even window washer fluid is inexpensive.

Oh, geez. Are we going to see the paranoids start hoarding BP solvent now? Soon it'll be 50 bucks for 8 ounces at your local gun show and online sellers will limit you to one bottle.

All this specualtion over the newly manufactured Hoppe's black powder solvent is interesting. We ALL know that the old standby, Hoppe's #9 PLUS, that was first developed in the late 60's or early 70's has been around for many years. Only3 years ago, I had a Hoppe's distributor - company spokesman ,tell me there was no such thing as Hoppe's #9 Plus, never was.  It seemed to him, I'd made it up.
