Here's a nice little rifle.  It appears that it may have been a  fullstock, now a halfstock?  Original percussion,
38" barrel of about 40 caliber and 7/8ths across the flat, signed T. H. Alison.  Bore is clean and sharp and all the parts are tight.  I might see if I can shoot this one.  Poured pewter nosecap with volute.  Well balanced with dark patina on the brass.

Could you share a picture of the signature with us? I love the way he dropped the loop af the first 's' (f) down the diagonal flat

T. Allison is one of my favourite Western PA makers.  Your rifle definitely has that great furniture from the area.

Really nice rifle.  I also had my hopes up to see the loopy verson of Allisons signature.  Anybody else have  one they can share?

Wish it had the pretty hand engraved one, but he must have used this one on his later rifles.
The stamp is about 3/32nds tall.  Smallest I have seen.

Even Fleeger went to the small stamp on his later rifles. At least he didn't change the spelling

Funny how things happen.  A mystery that I have been wondering about for a couple years was solved.
The Shreckengost rifle on the forum at this link http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=14256.0 bears the same signature as this Alison rifle.  I had thought the Shreckengost rifle was signed J. H. Alison but it is now clear to me that Shreck repurposed one of Thomas Alison's barrels in his rifle.  This is the second such rifle I have found where he did this.  The other bears the signature Nicholas Shenefelt.

Fair writeup on allison history at this link.  Best info is in The Longrifles of Western PA by Rosenberger/Kaufman
It is said that Allison trained some of the best western PA makers including Sam McCosh, John Fleeger and perhaps David Morton.  I wish I had photos of his more ornate work because his carving ranked with the best.
The carving on this rifle is not to be compared with his best work.
