I agree with Stone Knife, keeping them small enough for a days hunt and you make my aching back more tolerable, not to mention my feet. Some makers don't think of that and end up with something that will carry about a pound (or more) of lead. Not for me.
Tim I have some patterns of some that I made awhile back that didn't hold more than 5-8 round balls, depending on the caliber. Same for those that only want to carry around 4 to 6 shots of pellets for the smoothie. Depending on what load one uses for a 20 gauge I make them to hold about 6 - 7 oz (volume). That would get you about 5 - 6 shots if using 1.25 oz volume of shot. One would get more shots if you used only 1 oz of shot. Either way they usually fit into one's palm and easy to carry without a lot of weight.
