I have had this horn (unfinished) for quite some time.   It is very close to the original Stephen Tambling horn in shape and size.  I finally got around to getting  it done for my collection.

"Very nice" seems like a gross understatement.

noob question here...is the horn shaped into the desired curve before or after the scrim is done? or is that the actual natural shape of the horn, no shaping done?
thanks

Are experienced and newbies not able to co-exist? Does one mutually exclude the other?
I hate to say this but the more I think about it the more I think this statement is correct. I am not sure how (of if) you could make an environment attractive to both.

If you had some way of having newbies putting some skin in the game i.e. payment of some sort, it might weed out the as the car salesmen call them, tire kickers, from the serious newby. I personally think that's why the week long building seminars do well. Sure the instructors are paid but they still have to go to a lot of trouble to teach these classes. Anyone willing to take the time and expense to go to one of those schools is dead serious about learning.

I think this also works at places like the Log Cabin, not sure if there is a $ amount involved or not but someone has to devote the time and expense to attend the classes.

natural shape...

Thanks yes upon a closer look I see it is the natural shape of the horn. Which amazes me that someone can look at the raw curved horn and envision all that scrimshaw and apply it so masterfully.

Thank You all for the kind comments. Cathy and I have been making powder horns since 1976.  I had even dabbled in them as a child.   The neat thing about this horn is that the sahape and size of this horn is so close to the original horn.
