Reed powder measures
« on: June 24, 2013, 03:05:51 PM »
I saw someone asking for river reed / river cane to make powder measures.  How are these made?  Can someone post some pics?

Thanks,
Bill

Can make speed loaders out of cane too if you are a non-traditional traditionalist or something like that.  Saw it in an old Muzzle Blast.  we have so much bamboo around here and it is getting out of hand I think any use of cane a good idea.

Here are a couple I made a while back.  They work just fine and are accurate with charges.

One advantage to river cane powder measures is if it gets damaged or lost they are not terribly expensive.  I sure wouldn't want to lose some of the beautiful measures that I have seen on here and other places.

Very nice.   I saw them in the past but never realized what they were made from.

Do you have to dry it any specific way?

Thanks,
Bill

Yes, they are quite expendable.  It doesn't take long at all for them to dry after they're cut and brought inside.
