Newbie Question on Barrel Weights

Please excuse the dumb question, but when I see reference to A, B, and C barrels, does this refer to weight?  Thanks for listening.

The letters A,B,C, D, and DD refer to, OH, Gun Barrels, right  !! 

They refer to the overall size of the barrel at the breech, waist, and muzzle.  They don't necessarily correlate to the actual weight of the barrel.  A "B" weight 40 caliber barrel will weigh more than a "C weight 54, as the thickness of the barrel wall is more. 

IIRC, a B weight barrel is just shy of 1" at the breech, a C weight is about 1 1/16", etc.

My earliest recollection of this  nomenclature comes from Getz barrels.  I don't know if it was actually started by Paris or not.

Weight depends on who made the barrel.
My Green Mountain .45 cal "A" barrel, nominal 0.950" at the breech, tapered to 0.660, then flared out to 0.85" at the muzzle weights 4 pounds 5 ounces breeched.

Hopefully it will be attached to some wood & brass in a few months so I can shoot it.
