West Virginia Rifle
« on: July 20, 2013, 06:02:08 AM »
Planning another rifle to utilize the "flea market barrel" I found recently. This barrel is 13/16 straight full 48" in .45 caliber. In Lambert and Whisker's "Gunsmiths of West Virginia" (third edition page 147) is a rifle they have captioned as a West Virginia primitive or mountain rifle. Since this is a W. Va. made barrel I thought I out to build a W.Va. rifle. Looking for a style that would be right for a long barrel I keep going back to this one. I scaled it out in the picture and if the trigger pull is 13-3/4" than the barrel would be over 50". Any one know anything about this rifle? Interesting treatment around the grease hole with wire inlay. I'm thinking about a simple patch box in the same style as the grease hole with the wire inlay incorporated.
