Firday at Dixons - pics
« on: July 27, 2013, 01:28:41 AM »
A beautiful day at Dixons - not too hot.
I arrived early, spent all my money, and left by noon.
Stuck a few pictures in the slide show below, including my own ugly mug with  "Blackpowder Barbie" Chambers - what a friendly bunch the Chambers folks are.
Also included a few shots of Long John working away in the ALR tent.
Appeared to be starting the arduous task of inletting a barrel.

Wish I could remember who that highly-engraved patchbox was by - that was some impressive work.

The last photo is from the farm stand at the farm next to Dixons, where I stopped to pick up a dozen ears of sweet corn on the way home.  Makes me proud that this sort of trust and sense of community still exists in rural PA.

Great pics. Thanks Mike.

I love those self serve farm stands. One of the ones I used to live near had a metal box about the size of a shoe box with a slot in the top to put your money in. There was a tiny little padlock on the box, but the box wasn't attached to anything. LOL

Thanks for the slide show.  Would love to see more pictures of "Dixon's".  There are those of us stuck here on the left coast who can't make the trip.  :(  Photos like these are incentive to save up and perhaps make it next year.  Any one else with more pictures, please share with us unfortunates.

That patchbox looks like it could be from one of Larry Gardner's rifles.

I made the trip today also. Nicest weather I've ever seen at Dixon's.

Does anyone know whose table that is in picture 11??  Who makes the Rifle stains on the table and who is selling them?? The bottles are like Dangler's but the label is different than  the bottles I have.

Doc Tim -  I believe that is part of the Tiger Hunt display.

Don't know the origin/maker of their stains.
A quick call after Dixons is over will probably clear it up for ya.

I spent all day friday enjoying all the vendors at Dixon's.
Meet a lot of nice people.
All I can say is take lots of money if going to the fair.   Its a long drive for me but I will go back next year if at all possible.

I think 3 years ago, not sure on year, I got Dangler stains from Jim Klien.  I don't know  if he makes them or gets them from someone else.

Klien makes the stain himself.

The patch box looks like Larry Gardeners work. His table is in the centre isle at the east end of the first tent between the gun shop and the road. Same tent as Jim Chambers, John Getz, Alan Martin.

Sorry, guys, I only just found out that I keep cold beer at the tent.

Actually, I wouldn't have any beer on site, since this is an alcohol-free Fair. But there is no restriction for after-hours back at the hotel!
