Glasgow, MT muzzle loader turkey plank match
« on: July 29, 2013, 12:49:48 AM »
We held our second muzzle loader turkey plank match yesterday at the Valley County Rifle and Pistol Club range in Glasgow, MT.  We had 10 shooters which is a good turn out for us, this match seems to be catching on up here.  We have been using Steve Garbe's format from his matches in Cody, with a couple exceptions.  We shoot the match at 50 yards rather than 60 yards because we have target backers at that distance and I have not yet built portable backers for 60 yards.  We are not too strict on equipment as long as the rifle is a traditional style muzzle loader shot with patched round ball.  We shoot 10 shots with each shot being a seperate match, the winner being the closest shot to the center of the turkey head with the same target as Cody is using.

The weather was good but windy, a fairly steady 15-20 mph from 3:00.

Here are the results and a very limited equipment list:

Jerry Ketchum -  1 match win, .58 cal  imported percussion rifle

Mike Otterberg- 3 match wins  .50 cal Hopkins and Allen sidehammer      Minute Man rifle Numrich Arms

Howard Pipin- 1 match win .50 Cal. Thompson Center   flintlock.

Gene Sipe- 1 match win , .45 Cal. Thompson Center percussion.

Vern Copenhaver -0 match wins .50 Cal Thompson Center percussion.

Emery Brelje -2 match wins .58 Cal Pedersolli  Enfield percussion.

Wes Scott-0 match wins, .50 Cal. Lyman Great Plains  percussion.

Kelvin Morehouse-0 match wins, .50 Cal. CVA  full stockpercussion.

Kent Morehouse- 0 match wins  .50 cal Pedersolli half stock percussion.

Mike Peterson- 2 match wins .50 Cal. Lyman Great Plains  percussion.

A good time was had by all.

Mike Otterberg

Thanks for the report Mike. Will you be having these matches again and if so, when if you let easterners to shoot?

Smylee Grouch(I'll bet you are not really a grouch!!)

Thanks for your interest in our match, it really is a lot of fun.

We have another turkey plank match scheduled for Sept 28 and would love to have a shooter from the East!.  Sept would be a good time for a trip to Montana, the fall is nice here and we have a new very nice rifle range.   We have various types of monthly club matches.  I have my e-mail address listed in my profile.  If you would care to e-mail me I would return your mail with a match schedule.
