Dixon 2013 Judging (pics fixed)
« on: July 28, 2013, 11:25:52 PM »
I was able to get a few pictures of the entries at Dixons before the awards ceremony. A judge told me there were 35 guns entered, In case you ask, he said there wasn't a best of show awarded this year. Nevertheless, there was a lot of dedication and careful craftsmanship in evidence. There should be some happy builders leaving Kempton today. Congratulations!

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Mark,

To answer your question, I've been attending since 1999.  We had teh best weather I can remember yet this was the lightest attendance I can remember.

The ALR tent that Acer sets up each year got a good share of attention.  It was a success, thanks to Acer, Ed Wenger, Tom Currie and Eric VonAschwege.

Best Regards,

John Cholin

Here's a pic of the ALR tent . It's either Tom Curran or Ed Wenger demonstarting on the left and John Cholin explaining the finer points of barrel inletting on the right.

Thanks for the photos - wish I didn't live so far away.

John appears to have a very well constructed portable bench.  I'd like to see more photos of it.

there were two very well constructed portable benches under the tent. I would also like to see them. I meant to snap a picture of them before I left but got swept up in other things and forgot.

Blue,

Thank you for the compliment on my bench.  Here is another photo taken at the Middle School program my club does each year

I will put together a plan if any are interested.  I kinda made it on the fly but it turned out good.  As a matter of fact a guy came up to me and told me he wouldn't give me five cents for one of my rifles but would buy my work bench in a heart-beat.

He really knows how to hurt a guy, now doesn't he?

Best Regards,

John Cholin
