Spotted Allentown Internal Screw-tip Horn
« on: August 04, 2013, 02:02:14 AM »
Finally got back into the shop and finished up a spotted Allentown internal screw tip horn inspired by an original I saw at Roland Cadle's shop.  The body of the horn measures  16.5 inches long including the tip and collar.  The plug is made from cherry and has black Japaned bands (india ink) with carve turkey prints that also appeared on the original.  At the end is a finial with some chip carving around the base just behind the finial and at the widest part of the plug.  The spots were made with a mixture of lye and lead oxide.  The two-part tip is horn, dyed to match the color on the plug.  The collar is affixed to the horn with a single metal pin.  Hopefully, this will pass the muster.  Thanks!

Welcome back to the shop Carl and is your usual outstanding execution of this horn.  I can find just the bag for this one,  ;)

Good morning Sir; Carl, this horn has to be one of the best crafted horns I've seen on this site. Really great detail work from one end of the horn to the other. Color execution outstanding. G. Elsenbeck said "I can find just the bag for this one". I'm  sure many on the site can also find just the right bag. I have just the right hip for the horn to hing over. Thanks for sharing the pictures. AJ

Carl,  I'm a big fan of your horn especially the carving and turning, but the colors are
great too.  Were these spotted horns common in Allentown?  Were they buy one
particular maker or just local fashion?  Do you have a picture of an original that we could
see?  I think I saw one original at Lewisburg.  Great Horn!
