removing the pan for polishing the lock plate

Does anyone remove the pan to polish their lock plates?  I have a large siler lock I'm polishing and it looks like the pan should come off.  Soldered on maybe?  I am almost finished polishing the lock plate but there is one spot just on the corner where the lock plate and pan meet that I just can't seem to get too.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

disassemble lock and remove this screw.

Some locks are made with the pan cast integral with the plate. You'll have to work around as best you can with stones, rifflers and sandpaper on a stick.

There is a tutorial on lockplate polishing that has lots of ideas in it for polishing methods.

If it is a removable pan be careful in polishing to not remove much material that would ruin the pan to lock plate fit.

That was my first try.  I removed that screw a it did not want to come off.  I then tapped it with a rubber mallet but it did not budge.  I didn't want to start beating on it so I figured I ask first.  Are they normally hard to remove?  Perhaps I'm just being too gentle with it?

The pans sometimes do fit really tight.  I remove the very tight ones by tapping on the back end of the bolster with a small brass hammer after removing the screw.  It should come right off.
