I have a set of "inletting tools" that Larry Gardener makes I think he charges around 40.00 for a set. There are 3 different sizes and a holder for them. They are very well made and I would NEVER start an inlay job without using them first.

Small  chisels for stabbing and inletting can be made from a variety of things, and made relatively quickly.  I made the chisel in the photographs in about five minutes from a small phillips screwdriver.

Doug
I made them from some chisels I wasn't using. They are based on Gary Brumfields "Little Stamping tool".There is no commercial maker of them that I know of.

Mitch

Thank you Mitch. I am going to work on making a few up.

I'm grinding up some tools right now. Flat on one side rounded on the other.

love to see some close-up pics when you're done Tom, if its convenient of course.

Tom, I made one last night, flat on one side, and it wants to drift around curves.  I reshaped it to rounded on both sides, and it followed the curves much better.

That's good to know. I will proceed with caution.

I had to fix my workbench before I could stab my carving. I had to make some stabbing tools before I could cut in my design. Then I have to find my gun, which I have not seen for six months.
