18th Century "War Hawk"

Just finished this up a few days ago and thought I'd stick it on here. The head I made from 1/4" plate 4140 and after heating, bending, welding, grinding, filing, hardening, and tempering, this is what I came up with. Haft is of maple with incised carving and brass tacks and the cap is sterling. I added a few dents and wear marks as well as boiling the head in a water Clorox bleach solution to give it that used but taken care of look.

I like the aging on the head.  Are you coating the metal with anything prior to boiling it in bleach/water or just boiling it?  How long would you have to boil it to get the appearance that you have achieved?  BTW great job overall.

It was just bare steel nothing coating it. This head I boiled about 1 1/2 hours.

Yep, still at it. I'm still doing the guns but I've expanded my horizons into hawks and knives. ;D
