  Joe Seabolt and I will be holding another knife making class at the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, OH on Saturday May 3rd and Sunday May 4th. We have been doing this one as a 2 day / weekend class. Here is some info on the class from the Log Cabin's web site and a copy of the current flyer -

"...Learn tips & techniques from experienced artists and blacksmiths both featured in numerous publications including American Tradition, Muzzleloader & Muzzle Blasts.

   Learn how to make from raw materials a basic yet fully functional knife styled after those of Early American blacksmiths. Students will learn how to hand forge a high carbon steel blade and temper it properly for maximum performance, then assemble a knife with the blade using traditional handle materials. Learn how to build and maintain different types of coal fires for working and for tempering, plus successful blade hardening. Blacksmithing experience a plus, but not a requirement. Class fee includes coal, steel and all materials to complete the project..."

I wish you could make it too Steve. Maybe you can talk the guys from out there who were in the gun hardware forging class last Summer to all pile into a Yugo and split the gas? Now there's a travel journal I'd pay good money for a copy of.

Dag nabbit! I found three other guys who want to go, just can't find a Yugo anywhere in Canada!
Haven't done any metal forging for some time.(lots of metal foraging tho) Ha! Sure wish it was closer.

A YUGO?I just told someone recently that the reason my wife and I have owned
Lincoln Town Cars for years is because we can't afford a Yugo.

The 2014 class was great. Ian, Joe and the other Joe were all great teacher/instructors. Had a great weekend and the folks at the Log Cabin Shop in Lodi, Ohio where wonderful hosts.

We had a really good group this time, they made some nice knives and we had a great time! Joe McGee took some photos, I will try to post a few here as soon as he sends them to me.

We are holding the next knife making class in August. This has become a pretty popular class and usually fills quickly. As of now we have only one spot left in the August class, if anybody is interested please contact Liza Kindig at the Log Cabin Shop, (330) 948 -1082 for more info.

Steve - In an effort to achieve a state of balance here on the site, I often refer to the Yugo to offset Bob Roller's references to the Duesenbergs. Kind of an automotive Yin / Yang maneuver if you will.

The August class will be the same as the one you just took. Joe and I are working out the details for a more advanced class which will likely have to run three days instead of two, probably a Friday thru Sunday. I will keep you posted.

I took this class with Ian and Joe . I had a great time . Ian and Joe are awesome . They really work with you and show you how to do it right . Plus I got a fine knife out of it .
