My Indiana Tim Tansel Powder Horn
« on: September 09, 2013, 04:49:52 PM »
Here is my first Tim Tansel horn. He made many of these "Black Hawk War" commemorative horns. This one is small. The body of the horn is only 6.5 inches at the longest point (so that excludes the butt and the throat forward). I believe most if not all of the small horns did not have the fish mouth one generally expects to see on a Tansel horn. The tip is applied and the shape is taken from an earlier Francis Tansel horn.

Criticism is welcome. No kidding.

Thanks, Rick

Great colors, really nice eagle, good shape.  Very nicely done.
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Thanks for the kind words on my first attempt at a Tansel.

I have been devouring everything I can find on the Tansel family of horn carvers- I find their work very inspirational. While there are some common things in all of the different Tansel carver's work, there are some wonderful differences too.

Hopefully, I will be posting a Tansel which is a bit more difficult soon.
