Taylor can give a report - I had to leave next day after the plank shoot. Sorry, no pictures - my camera was stolen from my truck (I assume) before I left home for the shoot. My knees are giving trouble- was on a couple canes for a couple days, but did get to shoot twice. I used my .69 as it's sturdy enough to use as a cane as well. The first shoot - Saturday morning - dang hot it was too. Taylor won that one with a first, big Ron, also from Prince George got 2nd and I came in third place.  The second shoot I entered, Sunday morning, I shot poorly and didn't place at all - it happens- but had a GREAT tie breaker- spider'd the centre offhand at about 20 or 25yards - again 2nd day in a row with that big 15 bore ball.  Too bad I missed the string, card and several gongs on the that trail - HA!  The competition is fierce here.

We had a good starter turnout (27shooters - 12 prizes) for the plank shoot with some reasonable targets posted. Match rifles were not allowed - only trail walk rifles - shader's were allowed. Had a bit of wind - but dang hot it was - Tuesday afternoon. We had 10 planks set up- 2X12" Douglas Fir we'd 'logged' at our new range from 3 sections of 8 foot long logs from a single tree.  The rest of the tree will most likely be used for firewood.  From those 3-8foot sections, we also got enough 6" thick X 10"x4' lumber to make a moving turkey target for our own rendezvous.  Yeah - it was a decent tree.  Taylor, Ron and I did the logging and cutting using an Alaskan mill and Ron's HUGE skill saw for trimming the slabs into 2x12"x8' boards.

We shot 'at' 2 targets, 5 shots on each and scoring was rather easy as string measure was only used for ties. A white line separated the head from the body- everything touching the head scored 5, body hits scored 2.   No string measures were needed, which cut our scoring time from 3 or more hours for the chunk shoots we've had, to about 30 minutes for the plank shoot this year, which included the cooling down effects of a couple beer in the shade.

We had prizes for first, second, third and fourth.

Next year, we'll have double or over the # of shooters, I hope.

I packed up the next morning and returned home. I understand it rained most every day after that, but didn't cool down at night very much - YUK!  It was dry here, all week.

Darn thieves.
They stole my camera about 3 years ago and I had a photo of Don King and Ron Long in conversation at Cody and it went with the camera.  >:(  >:(
Anyway hope the Rondy went well.

The BC Rendezvous for 2013 was a great time!! As Daryl said, it was oppressively hot, and it rained part of almost every day, but cleared niecely each time.  Several days were clear blue blazers.  The primitive camp was thinner than in past years, with more folks opting for the shade of "Tin Town".  Still, for us diehards, the primitive camp was where it was at, and most folks from "tin" made their way down to primitive to socialize in the evenings.  By Friday, just before the holiday weekend, there were 141 camps registered, and more poured in just to catch the weekend.

There were events each morning and afternoon, regardless of the weather, for rifle, smoothbore, shotgun, pistol (both muzzle loading and cartridge) knife and 'hawk, and primitive archery.  Events are sponsored by either clubs or individuals, and there is something for everyone, including the kids.  There's two events 'for ladies only' - a High Tea on Tuesday afternoon, and an 'Un-tea' on thursday afternoon.  I'm not going to divulge anymore about those events - you have to come and see for yourself, but both events are well attended and apparently, a lot of fun.

Leatherbelly alluded to the Smoothbore event, and so he should, because he came in first with his 28 gauge Taylor - Made gun.  I picked up firsts in rifle, shotgun, and both pistol events.  In the trap match, I broke ten straight - a first for me and perhaps a record for the event too, though I cannot be certain.  Daryl's plank shoot was really well received, and I expect double the turnout next year.  His prizes were outstanding.  My primitive archery competition was all but rained out.  It stopped raining as the last shooter turned in his score card.  Then the sun broke out, the temperature soared, and my buddy Steve and I shot the course for fun.  Still, we had 46 archers take the field.  I gave away a dozen primitive arrows with fire blued steel trade points, in three places for men, women, and youth, plus some surprise awards for things like 'unlikely bet' (worst score) and middle of the pack.  The archery event consists of 16 targets - two shots at each, and my local archery club here in Prince George loans me the targets...from the biggest this year, a cariboo, to the smallest, a bobcat.  Even had a 'gator' down in the long grass of an old swamp.

The highlight for me this year, apart from getting to spend quality time with old and new friends, was an award that I was presented with - The Spirit of Rendezvous Award.  It was first presented twenty three years ago, and the people whose names grace it, are certainly a special group.  It was indeed an honour to be named among them.  Here's some pics...only took a few.

This is the back of my tipi looking toward 'Tin'.  the Vehicles in the distance are perhaps a sixth of the camps that are up on the benches above this lot.

This is a shot of Mike and I during the squirrel shoot.  Mike's carrying 'Packdog's Tennessee rifle, and I've got my Jacob Kuntz:  both .40's.

Here's some of my neighbours in Primitive.  Note the bedded doe on the hill behind the camp.  Though we did see deer and a most unwelcome black bear in cinnamon phase, this doe is a rubber one - an archery target.

This fellow didn't give us any trouble - another archery target.

A view of part of Primitive...

More of Primitive...

...and lastly, me and the most prestigious award.

I encourage everyone, particularly those within a couple of days drive, to attend next year, for the 25th Anniversary of BC Rendezvous.

LB - I was a blithering mess at the Council fire as it was.  Imagine another half bottle of wine in me....

Mike shot your old rifle really well this year.  He has an awful flinch that he was able to overcome as long as I talked him through the shot.  Last year he only got one squirrel, and this year - nine!  He was ecstatic!!

Oh so you're the guy who got 'Miss Penny'.  I was looking at that rifle long and hard on Ken's site and was always wondered who got that rifle before I could get it.  :)

   nyuk nyuk! ;D

Actually, I'm the second owner. I caught Bill of the 45th in a weak moment and grabbed it.I think Bill had it made for me...er, him by our own, Packdog. 44 inch "A" weight .40, she's pretty light. Has a great pull length and a  perfect amount of drop for me.Still experimenting with loads but have a standby that works pretty good. Nicely aged, not overly with a couple of "homespun" fixes. I get lots of compliments with her.One of my favs.

...and Bob of the woods, Dang!! I've done it more then once!... and a certain 20gauge fuzzee! She wins with it all the time!...and a Verner and a... ???

below are some more photos of Hefly to supplement those that Taylor posted.  I actually preferred the weather this year because the mild rains kept the temperatures cooler than usual.  My guess is that primitive camps were around 35 this year, down from about 40 the previous year.   Not sure why and the total number of primitive camps is hard to count because of clumping in some places and spaced out in others

cheers Doug
