Percussion Back to Flintlock.
« on: September 24, 2013, 03:12:47 PM »
I have a nice Isaac Haines rifle that was once a flintlock but was converted to percussion.
Can I convert it back to a flintlock wihtout to many problems.   I have no idea what type of flintlock lock was in the rifle.
Wanting to see what you think before trying to find a gunsmith who might do it if its not to big of a problem.

Can you post some photos fof the gun so maybe someone here can verify what lock was used?

I'm assuming this is a contemporary Haines.

Some of the lock pattern today are available in both flint and percussion. An example is the Siler series. The best thing would be to identify what you have, and then see if there is a direct replacement. If it's a drum, that can be replaced with a touch hole liner. Then you're good to go.

It is a Contemporary Haines.
I will take a picture later today of the percussion lock.  I will also take it out the rifle and see if there is a makers name or marks.
 Thanks for your replys.

After a few phone calls I have found the person who converted the rifle from Flint to Percussion. It was Dale Johnson.
It is a Siler percussion lock.
Dale is going to convert it back to flint for me.  I will have a Siler percussion lock for sale as soon as he gets the work done for me.   I will list it here on the forum in case someone may need a percussion lock.  Will have the drum and nipple as well.
