10 Bore Purdey Style Double Rifle Build LH Maple RH Walnut
« on: September 29, 2013, 12:32:46 AM »
I just finished building these two 10 Bore Purdey Style Double Rifles:
I did a fully video documentation of the builds, if you are interested in watching them you can view them here:
http://stolzergunsmithing.wordpress.com/
Just scroll down until you find part 1.

The left handed Maple stocked rifle:

More Pictures can be seen here: http://s269.photobucket.com/user/cstolzer338/slideshow/10%20Bore%20Purdey%20SXS%20LH%20Maple?sort=9

The right handed walnut stocked rifle:

More pictures of this one can be seen here:http://s269.photobucket.com/user/cstolzer338/slideshow/10%20Bore%20Purdey%20SXS%20RH%20Walnut?sort=9

Both rifles weigh around 13.5 pounds. Both have 26" Barrels, both are iron mounted furniture, both are oil finished and Semi-Flattop Checkered.

Both are regulated for 50 yards, 250grs FFg Goex and Patched Roundball.

The maple stocked rifle is Rust Blued with CCH Locks, Hammers and Tang.
The walnut stocked rifle is Rust Browned with CCH Locks and Hammers.

Thanks for Looking,

Colin

Looks nice from where I sit. I am planing a 20 bore rifle for this winter and would be interested in knowing the stock dimentions, such as length of pull, any cast, pitch, drop at comb, cheek, and heel. I dont think I could handle the recoil your 10 bore and load must generate. What velocity does that load achieve?

I doubt that the stock dimensions would help you much since these two rifles were fitted for two individual customers. LOP, DAC, DAH, Cast are different on each rifle. But I wrote up a tutorial a while back that might help:

Thanks for the feedback. I was actualy more interested in finding out if your guns were severe kickers as it looks like they have alot of drop but that might not affect recoil if the other dimentions were favorable. I am quite new to making larger bore guns so I am trying to educate myself as much as posible.

Thank You.
A lot of the things I build don't fit this forums criteria, otherwise I would post more.

I have been watching from the beginning on Youtube. Thank you very much for video. I want to build a double shotgun and now I think I can do it instead of "Well .... I am not exactly sure but I'll go ahead any way" Excellent craftsmanship. Thanks again, Mike New

Colin,

Both of these rifles are very nicely done, as usual your craftsmanship shines!  Thanks for sharing the rifles here, and most especially thanks for sharing the documentary information, a lot of great knowledge to be gleaned there.  I for one greatly appreciate your willingness (or passion) to share information!

Thank You for the compliments guys.
I'm glad you enjoyed the videos, if I don't pass on the knowledge I have then it will be lost for the next generation. Besides it helps me keep a promise I made to Steve Zihn when I apprenticed under him.

Beautiful guns, paradox or smoothe bores? How hard was it to regulate the barrels? Oldone

Thank You, they are rifled full length. If you click on the link to the videos, I think it is video 16(maybe) that I show how the regulation is done.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the information.
