well  it seems that they will not be able to ship,wood stain products and finishing products like Tru Oil to Canada any longer..d

Rusty, it's sad but true.  Ever since 9/11, TOW has stopped shipping liquids to Canada.  It's time to find alternatives, and there are good ones.  I stain maple with Ferric Nitrate Crystals dissolved in water, and blushed, and I finish with Circ 1850 Tung Oil, and am happier with the results.

Tru oil is available at Lee Valley Tools in Canada...it's listed in their current catalog and on their website.

Then again, make a trip to the states to the CLA show or Dixons, we'll make sure you have a good time, and stock up for years. And the shows are worth it.

My last surface trip into Canada (this year) only brought up questions on cash, alcohol and firearms. I don't recall anything that would have prohibited transport of a quantity of stain or stock finish. Now flying----- another question.

I live just over the border from Watertown, NY.

I buy paint, stain, marine epoxy (also build wooden boats) plus any number of "hazmat" items that would be a nightmare to try and ship via post or courier.

Canada customs doesn't have any issue with small quantities for personal use (there is "dangerous goods" regulations which set out what is considered "small packet" and "limited quantity" which grossly exceed whatever an individual is likely to use in many years and can be transported without special processing or permits by an individual) - and I do declare them all.

Most times as long as they get to collect the sales tax it seems like I could bring nuclear materials over. They simply look up a TSUS number and give me a paper to take to the cashier.

My last trip I brought back gun blue and Tru-Oil - no problem at all..

That is good to hear (read).  I guess the difference is the transportation system...I have to fly, so import is out.  Happy to know that it's not impossible, though.
