Two down, two to go.

Just finished two of the four long barreled pistols and the owners have picked them up. Two more to go. Had hope to have all four finished before Xmas and take group pictures.. No way I can  managed that.  :'( . Hopefully the last two will be done in a couple of weeks, What's left is rust bluing barrel and locks, and making front and rear sights. I'm going to be glad when they are done.  Everything but the locks and barrels are made from scratch. The pistols have custom made barrels from Ed Rayl, 15" long, swamped, caliber 40, small siler locks, singel phase set triggers, cast tin muzzelcaps, rust blued steel furniture with sterling silver accents. Stocks are curly maple stained with vinegaroon and boiled linseed oil.

I apologize for the picture quality, they were taken in a hurry.  I'll take better pictures of the two last ones and ask for critiques and comments on the work.

Rolf, that is a great looking brace of pistols.  If making a pistol is "x" amount of work, making a matching pair is not "2x" - more like "10x".  So I for one appreciate what you've accomplished.

May I make a suggestion regarding photographing your work?  Pick a background colour that is either textured like a short fur pelt, and/or a colour that is anything but white.  Your camera takes it's exposure from the background, making the subject dark and silhouetted.  A pale blue or grey blanket will give much better definition of the pistols.

Rolf, your meticulous nature shines through on this mighty fine pair of pistols.  They are quite beautiful and I can only imagine how much fun it will be to shoot them!   :D

I have gotten several emails, from people wanting me to build similar pistols for them.  Sadly, I do not have capacity or time to take on commissions.

I have given ALR a set of plans for the long barreled pistol. These are for sale; the money goes to funding ALR.
Please contact Dennis Glazner.

The plans include the necessary measurements for copying the barrel profile.
Full scale plans for all settrigger parts, triggerguard and stock profile.

They are not hard to make, just time consuming.

Barrels have to be custom made. There are no suitable standard barrels on the market.
I recommend either:

Or
Ed Rayle (no website)

If you wish to have the barrel inlet, I recommend David Keck http://knobmountainmuzzleloading.com/services.html

Rough cost estimate of materials used:
Barrel   100-120$
Small Siler 145$
Stock blank 50-100$ depending on quality
Barrel inletting 80$
Sterling silver accents 20$
Settrigger and trigger guard was made from scrap steel I got for free.

Anyone who wants to is welcome to make their own gun or commission a gun maker to do it for them.
