Question On Inletting Oct-Round Barrels
« on: January 23, 2009, 03:01:02 AM »
I am getting ready to start a pair of small , Great coat Pistols, (Thanks Eric VonA). Ed Rayl made me a couple of Beautiful bronze barrels, (Out of that boat prop shaft that I had) Now the question, they are tapered octagon to round with one band at the transition, only 3 3/4" long, and another ring at the muzzle. Are there any tricks to inletting them or is it just  like any other barrel?

Thanks, Tim C.

Tim, The challenge that's different from a full octagon barrel is that you can't scribe the width of the round part until it is inlet down to it's final depth. No tips, just be carful with inletting the round part.

Sounds like if you used a prop shaft from a boat those babies must be bronze.  Good luck on the inletting.

Yes I think the consensus was that it is bronze. I misspoke, Thanks for correcting me.
