Irish shot spout spring
« on: January 19, 2014, 07:46:34 PM »
Irish shot head spring. I need one. Any idea's where I can get one or who may be able to make one for me? I've tried a couple of times and failed in the most spectacular fashion! Thanks for any help.

I know Track of the Wolf sells the chargers, probably not the spring. You might try calling them and find the supplier they buy from though. Might have to make one. Best of luck!

Ted,
You might give October Country a try.  At one time, maybe 8 or 10 years ago, I believe there were about half a dozen in stock.  Whether or not the new owner has trashcanned them or not, I do not know.
In order to replace that spring, one has to unsolder the charger, replace the spring, then resolder it back together.  Much easier to just replace the whole charger assembly.
I did talk with Mr. Pedersoli about the poor quality of the spring and the breakage problem but received no real reply that I can recall.
Seems like Richard Beauchamp is Pedersoli's main importer, or at least he was.  You could also check with him.  He used to advertise in the classified section of the NMLRA magazine.
Hope that info is of some assistance.
John

If you have the time and tools, you can make a spring from a hacksaw blade, or  metal pallet binding straps.

A problem can be how to drill the hole. You need to anneal just that portion, so heat it (propane torch works OK), to straw/light blue, cool, should be OK to drill, at least at that end. Spring should work OK when you grind/file the profile you want.
