Viriginia Style Horn?
« on: February 17, 2014, 06:20:19 PM »
This one is my take on a horn that a fellow showed me pictures of. He said the horn came out of the Russell county area of Virginia, Russell is in Southwest Va, with his family to Ohio. No paper work just a story. I will take a guess and say it may have been made in the Valley of Va., Rockbridge Co,Harrisonburg areas.? I base that on the butt shape, covering band and tip shape of another I have seen from that area. It may have had a screw tip at one time that was pinned on at a later date. The horn was very rough from what I could see.
Ok to this horn, it is about 11” around the outside curve. The base is Apple, about 2 ½”. It is pinned on with 5 pins that also hold the base band in place, the band covers the seam where the wood and horn meet. The tip is horn, attached with three, the small ring is also held by 3 pins. Color is AF with some Brown dye over it and shoe polish

Very nice Tim. The front band and tip blend in very nicely.
