Source for Horn
« on: March 04, 2014, 11:53:02 PM »
Looking for some horn for the nosecap on a current build. Ordered from TOW their "ugly horn" last week. Apparently, alot of others did also as my order was short one ugly horn. Called them and they are "OUT" again with no expectation of when next shipment will come in.  ???

Anybody know of another source for this item? Was hoping to get this part done this week....

If you are looking for solid horn I bought horn from the following link for a Jaeger I built years ago.  I bought the buffalo horn middles.

I buy mine from Roland Cadle at Village Restorations; http://www.villagerestorations.com/everything_horn.     Actually,  I try to buy them from him at Dixons.   He is the one who always has the big pile of horns for sale.   I usually hunt through the stack and fill a bag with some.   When I couldn't get to Dixons,  I ordered them from him.   He has polished horns and raw horns.    I try to keep a box full of polished horns; and box of raw horns for turning stock.

Try Petco.com for water buffalo horns.  Three sizes the largest I think is 12" for about $15.00.

Call Roland Cadle 814-312-1825.  He has some long raw horns that he will cut for you so shipping is not a pain.  They get very thick towards the tip and are excellent for bands and nose caps.  I got a 30" horn at Lewisburg, cut the horn 16" from the tip and the walls are at least 1/2 thick at that point.  I will get a lot of bands and enough material to make horn nose caps at need.

Email me a sketch or a photo of what you need.  I have some Australian water buffalo horn that is solid and aged so you don't have to worry about cracking or shrinkage.  If you want hollow horn, I have that too.  Sure don't like the aroma produced when band sawing this stuff but the end result makes up for the stench of burnt hair!  My email address is in my profile.  We'll work out something to trade.
