Help Identifying Pistol.

Marked J. M. H. 1853. 13 5/8" brass barrel.

Appears to be a cane or walking stick gun, also known as a "poachers shotgun". one American maker was Day in the Civil war period. They are not common.

Does it have a provision for a detachable stock in the grip of the pistol?

Frank Seller's book lists the following information:

Happoldt, John M. -  Charleston, South Carolina 1826-1865, Columbus, Georgia, 1865-1868, derringers and pistols (Kauffman 2)

This pistol might have been made by him. Perhaps someone who is familiar with this man's work might be able to confirm.

He says there is no liner, it appears to be all brass.

Oopps! Did not note the length. Cane guns are about 35" long. Sorry.
