TOW Bivins kit nearing completion
« on: January 28, 2009, 02:03:10 AM »
Well its only taken a year but after a lot of procrastination and second guessing my judgment I'm finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. The only thing left to brown is the barrel and tang. I'm worried about screwing up the final finish when I do the vent liner and the sights. The tutorials and books I've seen and read all show these procedures done on a finished barrel is there a reason for this. Leon

I've never written a book, but it seems strange to me that someone would suggest installing a liner and dovetails in a browned barrel.  There is no way it won't get marked where you don't want a mark.
I'd finish the barrel completely - then brown.

On all of mine get it all built, then disassemble it to brown the parts. I brown the barrel &  sights separately, then put it all together.  On the vent liner, if it is removable take it out & put in a allen screw the same size with some teflon tape on it. If it is non-removable, take a round toothpick & break it off & tap into the vent hole shugly.  Now brown away.......
