That's nice David.  Looks like a fine grained piece of hard maple.  That should be easier to shoot accurately, than your flint pistol..

Kerry, you're the second person in recent times to ask me that, so I'm going to take it out and take a few pictures.  I'll email them to you.

I'm rather ashamed at the lack of finish on this trigger set, but though rough as a cob, it functions perfectly, and there is no back-lash.

These two photos show the trigger set (as opposed to unset).

Here is is unset...

...and here's a very crude sketch which is not to scale, of the parts.  I hope you can see how it works.

I have made and used at least 3  triggers of similar design. I think they are now available from Davis.
Its all I use for SS triggers now.

I have made about 5-6 (?) Hawken style pistols over the years.

This is all TOW parts from about 1980 including a precarved stock in walnut.

This has a lot more shop made/reworked  parts in it.

This is one of a pair. Cut a 12" GM 54
I have made one or two others but no photos. One was a full size percussion in 54 that I shot a deer with just to see how it worked.
I like the swivel rods far better than wood. But one must make most of the parts. The parts TOW sold, 30 odd years ago anyway, are too flimsy and I make them out of thicker metal using the store bought parts as a pattern.

The part the rod passes through is the hard part if you don't have a lathe  but the TOW part works OK.

I do not consider pistols hard to make. Metal work is less or at worse the same. Stock work a LOT less. But some folks hate em. So?
If parts have to be made like TGs,  as in the second one down its a little more trouble. TGs can be a pain
I have a 62 cal x 1" barrel I am going to cut into pistol barrels to make a large bore set like the 65 caliber originals shown earlier in the thread. Percussion and maybe a FL set too since I have enough for 4 barrels.
TOW sells a plan for a similar pistol that might be of help to someone in the process of using the original Hawken as a inspiration. But this is NOT a beginners project.
A beginners pistol project is more like a simple FS pistol from a precarve stock. Hooked breeches, underribs etc are harder to do.

Nice work Dan.  Is your colour case hardening from Wyoming Armory?

Yes, I don't even think of anything else. Keith is a master at it
He has done various locks and breeches and some single shots as well.

Thanks for the compliment

You are welcome John.  These triggers are very simple but the nuances are critical.  I spent a week of eight hour days making this set - I made almost every part three times, putting them together and taking them apart hundreds of times, but now, they work perfectly, and have won me many trophies.  There's a great pistol shot in Alberta who wants to buy my pistol, I think just to get it out of circulation.
Incidentally, you have to set the trigger to lower the hammer - it is not double acting.

I thought I was the only one who was that slow. LOL  When I made my double set single lever Gillespie triggers I was still fine tuning them after the first couple of trips to the range.  Taylor, you make me feel good.  Nice triggers.
