That's a mighty shiny buttplate!  Wow!  I'd be afraid of scuffing it up.  Tell us more about the gun.

Seldom see 'works in progress' so I thought I'd step in to the 'trap'.  Daughter in law posted the photos for me.  Be a cold day in hades when I could figure that out ::)  She is so far, a 28 gauge Getz Octagon to round w/the bands. Chambers lock. She will have the white lightning liner, iron mounted as you can see, walnut blank with ol Ron Rhode cutting the channel and hole.  I'm scratching at her since Sept (08 I do believe :)) ;D
Going at her slow. I have since set in that trigger deeper to get a slimmer silohuette under the lock with a narrow mortice border with that slim point towards the rear as per the original Durs Egg I have a photo of. I have built pretty much the entire spectrum of MLs incl Southern Mt rifles, Schuetzens,Chunk, Smoothbores, plain Lancaster, plain Haines! What did I miss? And have done @!*% near every screwup known to man! No fancies A guy my age with starting cataracts has to know his limits and what he is and is not capable of doing!  Build 'em in the winter and shootm all year!!! ;D Thats the plan at least!

Nice Roger!  VERY nice!  Please keep posting pictures.  If need be, have the Daughter In Law stay with the technical stuff - but keep her posting pictures as it develops.  Going to be sweet!

Terry, 
I got this piece of bar with a big hole in the middle and it's made of steel, brand new, none of those swirly marks on the inside like my other barrels have, I s'pose it's a smooth bore. At least it looks purty smooth inside.  Maybe it's just a shined up piece of water pipe and I got ripped off, what do you think? Maybe I should make a harpoon out of it?  Or me, you and Roger could get together when we all get them done and see who's (or who) shoots the best.

Roger,

That looks like some really fine work there.  Take it slow and enjoy the journey.  Some things, like building a gun, are too sweet to rush.

Come on down toughman!! ;D   I heard that saying when Butter Bean or Ball was in the toughman contest!

We shoot a smoothy match at First Frontier every shoot!  We have a couple more being built that I know of!

Wot pay ??? No such thingee!  I'd starve to death if I did it for a 'living'! I scratch at it an hr or less daily then the eye strain headache starts.!

Plan the show Friday then north to SheShequin for Sat and Sunday winter shoot.  At least thats the plan.   ;D
