shot pouchs

 I'm looking for ideas for making a couple of small shot bags,maybe to hold a dozen shots for a short hunt ,any ideas out there? I have plenty of soft deer skin as well as some heavy stuff pictures would be nice. thanks for the help

 I started another thread instead of making it look like I was Hijacking this one since it is so large. I hope it helps. The book Kermit offered is a very good choice.

You didn't mention whether the pouch was going to be for round balls or small shot like bird shot?

Last time I made a "ball" pouch, I used soft leather and a turned spout and plug  like the one in the following link.  I've never carried bird shot in it, though, and from the link above, I can see it would be better to use a harder leather for bird shot.

When I made my "bird shot" shot pouch, I found an original spout (something like the one in the link below)  and used thicker, but soft cowhide leather and made a "shot snake" with it.  However, I REALLY got carried away with how much room I sewed in for the shot. When Max Vickery saw it, he said something like "Hon, I do believe that shot snake will hold more shot than any one I've ever seen."  GRIN.   Later on, I went back and stitched it up so it would not hold near as much.  Grin.
