100 yd bench shoot advise

Tomorrow we shoot 100 yds bench rest ,.. I shot a green mountain b wt 45 with 65fff chambers flintlock
I'm open to suggestions on powder chg supposed to be 50 degrees windy
Any help....?..

 Every barrel and person will shoot differently, folks can give you a idea on what THEY use but it might not work for you. Only practice, and lots of it will tell you what you need for 100 yard matches.

I would shoot the load that groups the best and sighted in for that load befor I shot for score.

You must feed our rifle what it wants. I spent a good day at the range with my .50 GM. I ended up with the best groups at 50 yards with 75 gr 3f. I had about 2 1/2 inch group at 100 yds. I bumped charge up to 80 gr. and my 100 yd. group widened to 6 inches.

I agree with the tightest group  combo. Just figure out where to hold. Also all guns have a sweet spot for rest shooting , you will have to find that also have fun and good luck

The only way to find out what "your" rifle will do at 100 yards is to shoot it at 100 yards. If you haven't done that today, you don't want to try to compete tomorrow. The variables are so great between shooters and equipment that I don't feel anyone can give you better advise than a lot of practice.

Smokin isn't wrong. Length ov barrel and height of sights above center line of bore are just two of the variables between rifles.

That said, given the little info here, I predict you'll probably see about a 4" drop going from 50 to 100 yards.

Well it's over you were correct 4 inches low need to change my sights had to hold over bull and that's not good

My .45 GM barrels, most accurate loads are .0235" railroad ticking patch(mattress), a .445" cast ball and 75gr. 3F GOEX or 85gr. 2F GOEX. Identical shooting- only at 50 meters - I haven't shot it at 100meters - yet. Held well on a 4" black bullseye & double bagged, I've managed 1/2" (some better) 5 shot groups with these loads at 50 meters.  I have no reason to believe they will not hold 1 1/2 to 2 MOA at 100meters in good conditions - without wind, off bags.

When using heavy powder, high velocity loads in any rifle with patched round balls, the load MUST be larger in diameter (as measured) than the groove diameter of the rifle, OR - the load will not provide it's best accuracy. That is what I've found in my testing and what all the ACCURACY shooters have found in their rifles as well.  Find me a chunk-gun or BR shooter who uses only his thumb to start the ball and that will be the picture of a shooter who has never won a match - nor even placed unless he was only 1 of 3 shooting.

Guess I feel quite strongly about this - that's who I am. No offense meant. These are the facts for accurate shooting at the longer ranges.

So right Daryl thats why those bench,x-stix and chunk shooters use those tight combinations for loads. Good gas seal for enough speed to shoot in the wind or long range. Those shooting with false muzzles will load a ball over bore dia. No thumb starters in that crowd.
