New to forum
« on: March 25, 2014, 05:27:26 PM »
Hello all,
I decided to join the forum  today because I am about to begin another build soon.
I have built a number of rifles and smoothbores but this one will be different.
Almost ten years ago I lost my home and shop to a fire. All my tools, library, stocks, barrels, components and finished rifles were turned to char. There was one barrel that was saved but that is another story.
At the time I decided that collecting a new set of tools and research materials was beyond any realistic scope. Looking back I can say that at that time I was right, I had spent fifteen years collecting books and refining my collection of rasps, files and chisels and had carefully stocked my bins with screws, pins, parts and pieces that included specialized jigs and fixtures to make a complex task pleasurable.
I missed it and about a year ago started slowly collecting tools and setting aside a space in my recently rebuilt garage, no heat yet but it's a space. I'm still assembling parts, and pieces but the excitement and trepidation is mounting as I try and remember what I have forgotten.

Welcome, Burnt!

Your memory of 'how to' will come back, probably AFTER you've done the work.  ;D Then there's the next build to try to get it right.

I am curious, how did you come across the ALR forum? Were you 'lurking' for a while, or did you just stumble upon us, and join right away?

Regards,

Tom

Tom,
I did a google for "longrifle build".
As I restart my obsession I am looking for insight and inspiration.

Good to know, thanks.

I have been on this forum for more years that I can truly remember. I'd better go look at my profile. Holy mackerel, I signed up in 2008. I haven't missed a day, except for when the internet was down, or I was sleeping. Hahahaha..

I hope you enjoy the forum.

Acer,
I hate to remind you of your age but the 2008 date reflects the date you signed up on the new ALR board, you were ALR member/moderator before I moved us over to the new software forum! Soooooo- you have been around long before then.

Welcome Burnt,

Tough loss from the fire.  I'd hate to face that, but  glad you're getting back to it.

Good luck,
Jeff
